-LA GENTE SF PRESS QUOTES-
“La Gente SF, led by Rafael Bustamante Sarria, plays an intoxicating cocktail of world music, mixing cumbia, reggae, salsa and hip-hop. Dance music with a political edge”
-Cy Musiker, KQED Arts

“La Gente SF reminded listeners of the depth, scope, and considerable talent of the local music scene. The band can be described, generically, as Latin fusion, aka mestiza music. Yet that description doesn’t really impart the sonic goodness and vibey aesthetic the band embodies.”
-Eric K Arnold, Oakland Local

“It’s refreshing to watch a band draw an audience as eclectic as their music. It seemed no one could sit still through the contagious beat and positive vibe.”
-Cassandra Braun, East Bay Times

Bombazo en la Bahia with Taller Bombalele

Join us for our monthly Bomba jam with our Taller Bombalele class community at Au Lounge. This Bombazo en la Bahia we will be fundraising for our upcoming 5 year anniversary Bomba learning trip.

To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we the students of Taller Bombalele are heading to Puerto Rico to study Bomba and its history. From August 24th to September 2nd 2019 we will attend a series of intensive workshops on the practice and history of Bomba, and will visit a number of historic Bomba sites and communities. We are raising funds to help us with the cost of workshops in Puerto Rico (we will be taking workshops with teachers and elders in Puerto Rico), transportation costs while in the island, and to document our experience there as a class community for a community report back upon our return. Please help us raise the funds necessary for our trip..."De La Bahia a Borinquen...Returning to the Roots, Celebrating 5 years of Resistance".

As always our Bombazo en la Bahia will be an inclusive, family friendly jam with our students and fellow Bomba community members. We will have some Taller Bombalele items (T-shirts, CD's, stickers, buttons, and raffle items) for sale to also help us raise funds, please join us and invite your friends and loved ones to join in on the fun.

Pop Up Kitchen by Prima's Cuban Vegan Corner, Caribbean Vegan food by Chef Wanda Cuesta Kruda for sale as always!

Bombazo at the UC Berkeley student brigade for PR aid fundraiser

Come support the launch of a UC Berkeley student brigade of support for Puerto Rico. This is a student led project through the Public Service Center in partnership with Boricuas in Berkeley, Casa Pueblo in Adjuntas Puerto Rico and Camp Tabonuco un Jayuya Puerto Rico. It has been a year and a half since Hurricanes Maria and Irma devastated the island and the continued colonial status is equally devastating. Thousands remain without power, infrastructure is in dire need of attention and schools and services continue to close.

Our students hope to make people to people connections and join as allies with the students, community organizers and people of Puerto Rico who are not only addressing Hurricane relief, but building a new Puerto Rico from the ground up.

All funds go directly to our two Grass Roots partners in Adjuntas and Jayuya and support their ongoing work for a new Puerto Rico. Please come join us, enjoy delicious Puerto Rican food, great music with live performances and bring your check books, credit/ debit cards and an open heart, We need you!!!
