De La Bahía a Borinquen... Returning to the Roots
"De La Bahía a Borinquen... Returning to the Roots, Celebrating 5 years of Resistance"
From August 24th to September 2nd 2019 we will attend a series of intensive workshops on the practice and history of Bomba, and will visit a number of historic Bomba sites and communities.
While some of us are prepared to take this journey, for many of us the cost is prohibitive. We seek donations to increase the number of Taller Bombalele members/students who can make this journey and participate in this grand celebration of our Bomba community by traveling to Puerto Rico to learn from the communities there across the island. We plan to learn from Bomba teachers in the South, West, and East coasts of Puerto Rico. We want to make a strong showing of our beloved Taller Bombalele during our study trip to Puerto Rico.
We will have a few fundraisers and other opportunities for our community to support us on this learning journey. The funds contributed will go to paying artisans and teachers in Puerto Rico who will be teaching us workshops in Song, Dance, Percussion, and the art of making the instruments used in Bomba. We are also raising funds so that we can have the experience documented so that we can offer our Bay Area community members who can't make the trip a report back of what we learned in Puerto Rico.
